Artist Statement

The Gola Malimbe is one of two endangered African weavers in the Genus Malimbus. Paying homage to my scientific illustration background, I chose to paint them in a style reminiscent of historical natural history plates, taking inspiration from a plate showing the female and male of a different weaver species. The Gola Malimbe has a restricted range in highly threatened habitat only found in E Sierra Leone, W Liberia; E Liberia, W Ivory Coast, and S-E Guinea.
