Artist Statement
The Giant Nuthatch is the largest species of the genus measuring approximately 7.68 in. Our North American nuthatches are very much smaller. Giant nuthatches are found in the mountains of southwestern China and northern Thailand in the subtropical or tropical mountain pine forests. They may be extinct in Myanmar. The giant nuthatch is severely threatened by deforestation of its mountainous habitat in southwestern China.
The giant nuthatch in my painting is depicted close to life size to give an indication of how large it is.
