Artist Statement

The diademed amazon (Amazona diadema), listed as endangered, is endemic to a limited area in the Amazonas and NW Para states in Brazil. Their preferred food is fruits and seeds which they find in a variety of lowland forest habitats. The population, unfortunately, is in decline due to deforestation. I chose this species because I couldn’t resist the opportunity to paint a parrot. The background design is based on Amazonian tribal tattoo patterns.
