Artist Statement
The Coxen’s fig-parrot is one of the smallest and least know of the Australian Parrots. This highly endangered parrot’s decline is because of clearing in lowland rainforests for agriculture and housing, as well as logging. There is estimated to be less than 100 mature individuals left in severely fragmented populations. Permission for use of the photographic image for reproduction as a painting was generously given by Graeme Chapman, natural history photographer and ornithologist, Australia. www.graemechapman.com.au.
