Gymnogyps californianus by Rob Dreyer(8 in. x 8 in. | Oil on Board | ID#3854)
Family: CATHARTIDAE | Conservation Status: Critically Endangered | Population Trend: increasing
The California Condor became extinct in the wild in 1987. Breeding and reintroduction programs now have the condor soaring again in selected areas of the southwestern United States, yet they remain a critically endangered species. Without intervention, they surely would have perished. The success of the condor should provide both hope and inspiration, not only that intervention is critical, but that intervention works.
