Artist Statement

I chose to paint a Brazilian Merganser because I enjoy the graphic design of most Mergansers, with their crested heads and unique value patterns of their feathers. I enjoy the pthalo green colours of their shimmery head crests. As it is in the top ten most endangered waterfowl, it is important to appreciate and protect these beautiful birds. It is on the critically endangered list because of habitat loss and degradation, much of it human caused. Please support protection efforts of the Brazilian Merganser and save the species, of which there are fewer than 250 at last count.
