Artist Statement

Endemic to Bolivia, the Blue-throated Macaw is one of South America’s rarest parrots, with a population estimated at 250-350 individuals. On the verge of extinction in the wild, these charismatic macaws are listed on the IUCN Red List as critically endangered. Conservationists are tackling the main threats affecting this species: habitat loss, lack of breeding sites and llegal poaching. Blue-throated Macaws are monogamous, forming pair bonds that last a lifetime. They may live 80 years or longer. As an Artist active in conservation, it's as important for Becci Crowe to be in the field as it is in her studio and her worldwide explorations provide inspiration for her work.
