Artist Statement

Guans are remarkable large birds, and the Black-Fronted Piping-Guan is no exception. This species is experiencing a very rapid population decline, mainly due to extreme habitat loss and hunting pressure. I discovered that this guan species greatly relishes in the fruit of Euterpe precatoria, locally known as Huasaí or Palmito, and included said fruit in the background of my painting.
