Earlier this week, Kwitonda, the Silverback Mountain Gorilla featured in AFC's first documentary film "How an Artist Saved the Mountain Gorilla", was found dead by trackers in Rwanda.
Jeff Whiting, AFC President commented "He was a magnificent gorilla who figures as the most significant wildlife encounter in my life, as I know he has for others who observed him up close. It appears he lived to the ripe old age of approximately 40 and although we await the results of an autopsy to confirm his death, I can't help but take something positive from this. Successful and sustained conservation efforts, particularly those of the Mountain Gorilla Veterinarian Project, appear to have allowed this gorilla to live a full life in an area/region fraught with so much violence and danger."
Encore screenings of "How an Artist Saved the Mountain Gorilla" will be presented at the upcoming 2012 Artists for Conservation Festival at Grouse Mountain, October 13-21. Schedule will be posted soon.
