On one late afternoon, just before the sun was setting, I spotted this pretty pelican at Long Reef on Sydney's northern beaches near where I live. I loved how the light played with her body and made it shimmer; the last of the sun's rays dancing on the concrete behind her as she casually strolled along. Scratchboard was the perfect medium for capturing the contrast of light and shadow.

Fortunately, pelicans are not an endangered species.
