No More Tears
Rhinos are one of the longest surviving animals on the planet. Rhinos were roaming the earth in abundance over 50 million years ago. In comparison, in what seems like a flash, these magnificent creatures have lost staggering numbers to humans where, on average, a rhino is poached every 22 hours. Sadly, only two rhino species have fewer than 80 animals left.
Stirred by the statistics, I felt inspired to visit the Western Plains Zoo, NSW and get close to a real rhino. Although the facts are devastating, there was something at that moment, when close to that rhino, I sensed some happiness emanating from him as his almost bulletproof skin soaked up the warm rays on the dawn of this new day. Can we create a new day for rhinos? Can they thrive in spacious habitats, co-exist with humans and be free from harm? All animals deserve this.
