When we see a baby animal or species like an adorable koala, we are immediately captivated by its sweetness and vulnerability. That is what I aimed to highlight in this piece. Vulnerability is something that every sentient being is born with and inspires our instinct to protect them and keep them safe from harm. Now, more than ever, this unassailable quality in our iconic koala needs to be protected and honoured as it goes unnoticed and overlooked by government officials and developers, hell-bent on economic growth and vested interests rather than saving valuable koala habitat.

Before colonization, the koala population was abundant on Sydney's northern beaches where I live. The last koalas lived in Avalon. They completely disappeared by 1989.
