Because my life and work involve so much travel I have developed a fascination for the graphic quality of maps and navigational charts, and quite often like to include details of them in my artwork. In this particular painting, I have used an antique map of the world as a background for my portrait of a Barbary lion and lioness. These lions are now highly endangered, and here they act as a symbol for threatened wildlife around the globe.
