ABOUT THE SPECIES

The Black Panther is the melanistic color varient of an African or Asian leopard (Panthera pardus), which at first glance might appear uniformally black but on close examination shows the typical markings of a regular leopard. The markings of rosettes and large and small irregular spots are hidden by the excess black pigment melanin, this is refered to as "Ghost Striping".
