I observed these particular birds at the Tall Grass Prairie Preserve in Oklahoma.   It was nearing sunset and hundreds were swooping overhead at the visitor center.

It was fitting that the resulting painting was sold at the Gilcrease Museum’s “American Miniatures” show in Tulsa.
