Least Tern
During the breeding season a colony of Least Terns is roped off by the Trustees of the Reservations on Cranes Beach just a 15 minute drive from where I live. Weighing just one ounce, these small terns migrate from the northern coast of South America to lay their eggs in a slight depression scraped in the sand.
This painting was part of the "Art of the Animal Kingdom" show at the Bennington Center for the Arts in Vermont.
