Over 1000 trumpeter swans overwinter each year at the National Wildlife Refuge & Riverlands Sanctuary in West, Alton, Missouri – not 30 minutes from my studio in St. Louis. “Wintering Trumpeters” was inspired by a visit I made one chilly January morning to Riverlands. I arrived before daybreak and stayed until late morning when most had lifted off the water to find food in the neighboring agricultural fields of the grain belt. There I sat and watched quietly as hundreds of these majestic birds floated about, occasionally using their long necks and powerful bills to reach down and pull up submerged roots and stems. The sound was similar to the first day of french horn class – all sounding the notes, just not particularly in unison. And occasionally one would rise up, puff out his chest proudly, and stretch and pound his wings. A warning to others, a ritualistic “renewal of his wedding  vows,” or just getting a good morning stretch - I have no way to say.

All limited edition prints come rolled in a tube.  Canvas giclee prints are hand finished with a semi-gloss UV protectant and include enough edge canvas for stretching.

All originals and prints come with a 30-day money back guarantee.  Inquire about stretched prints.
