Although I typically see the American White Pelican most often out west, I also see them regularly at the confluence of the Mississippi and Missouri Rivers near my hometown of St. Louis, Missouri. I specifically painted them in a style similar to the Hudson River School of American Art to create the pastoral feeling of the untouched American landscape, much the way the first settlers to the area would have found them.
