I often paint with the intention of physically bringing the animal into the room with the viewer. To do this successfully, you have to create an illusion of near life size, and place the animal in space. When you understand that objective, the composition of this painting becomes apparent.  Sometimes a painting simply falls nicely and effortlessly together - this was one of those paintings.
