Crossing Paths
On my first trip to South Africa I was quite taken by these jaunty fellows which we saw frequently. The Southern Yellow-billed hornbill feeds mainly on the ground, foraging for seeds, insects and spiders. I added the muddy leopard print purely for interest. I have heard that hornbill species are able to differentiate among various monkey warnings to know when a leopard is in the area. Whether or not that is true, the monkey was not needed in this instance.
