Categorized as Endangered, Galapagos Sea Lions can be found anywhere around the islands. As a rule they prefer sandy beaches but will also frequent lava rocks, anchored boats, docks and landing stages. Pups were plentiful while I was in Galapagos. Gestation takes nine months and the single pup grows rapidly on mother's milk. While young they stay in shallow water nurseries with other babies, swimming and playing with each other and with human visitors.
