This particular doe was one of several deer coming to graze the first winter on my beautiful property bordering the Peterborough Crown Game Preserve in Ontario. I am blessed to back onto over 55,000 acres of rugged and pure Canadian wilderness. The creatures I encounter on a daily basis are my closest neighbours. I learn to recognize individuals and over time they become familiar with me and unconcerned in my presence. In my art I attempt to capture not only a likeness of my varied subjects but something of their innate spirit as well. Thus it is never just 'a deer' or just 'a bird'....it is 'that' deer or 'that' bird. It is a personal relationship and I strive to convey that feeling of intimacy to the viewer.
