A WILD RIDE  bronze 21’’ x 15’’ x 11’’

I started competing on bareback broncs and bulls when I was 16 years old. Bull riding may be the most dangerous event, but bareback is the most physically demanding. The bareback rider uses a rigging that is made of a leather and rawhide that is placed just behind the horse's withers and is often compared to a suitcase handle. . The rider leans back and spurs with an up and down motion from the horse's point of shoulder toward the rigging handle, spurring at each jump in rhythm with the motion of the horse.  I wanted to capture the power, excitement, and raw beauty of this rodeo event. Competing in rodeo and sculpting the events has been a passion in my art and life for as long as I can remember.
