Piñata
ln the fall, abandoned Hornet's nests become a banquet for the Flicker. The leftover grubs provide a fat filled meal that helps this woodpecker make it through the leaner months. This piece is based on an idea l had done earlier in oils. l loved the texture of the nest , and how it mimicked the bird's markings and felt it was a perfect subject to revisit in scratchboard. At 232 hours it also set a new record for time spent creating one piece. Nearly a month and a half of work. This piece received the Bronze Award in the Annual lnternational Society of Scratchboard Artists membership show.
