Our west coast Horned Puffins spend most of the winter out to sea, only coming ashore to breed along the rocky coasts of B.C. and Alaska. Many of these rock outcrops are adorned with  the lovely Maritime Sunburst Lichen, it's bright orange color echoing the leg and bill colors in the visiting Puffins. This was the inspiration for the piece.
