'Whirly Birds' Major Mitchell's cockatoo- Lophochroa leadbeateri
This painting was inspired by the elegant Major Mitchell parrots. These birds are extremely attractive with a playful frolicking nature. The rusty windmill was spotted in my son William's garden in South Africa. My fascination with things old and rusty has become quite an obsession and somehow creeps into many of my paintings. My husband Menno, gave me the title to my painting which I loved and felt portrayed the feeling I wanted for 'Whirly Birds'. The Major Mitchells are not listed as endangered species.
