To the Point
In 2013 I was lucky enough to host an African Art Safari tour to Zimbabwe. During this trip we spotted a variety of birds and were very luck to see a Pale Chanting Goshawk. I love the precision required to land on such a small surface with such grace and hoped that I could capture this moment in my painting. I used acrylic on canvas and found the feathers' delicate colors really intrigued me and marveled at how beautifully the sky reflected all. Painting birds and animals has taught me to become so much more aware of their surroundings, habits and character and gives me such pleasure. It also highlights the need to conserve their natural habitat which in so many instances is being lost to humanity.
