This piece was a finalist in the David Shepherd Wildlife Foundation, WAY 2016 (wildlife artist of the year) Exhibition at the Mall Galleries in London.

I live in the foothills of the South Downs National Park in East Sussex, UK. My studio is detached from my main cottage, and as I was in there in late spring, early summer 2015, I heard two thumps in quick succession! - To my absolute shock, there lay the two birds, both males, one a juvenile, on my footpath below. I was horrified to think that this was my fault, and I'm glad to say that it has never happened since. Our cottage faces onto some thickly wooded areas which were mirrored in our upstairs windows, and as one bird was an immature, his inexperience caused his error, I think the adult bird was directly behind and could not avoid the accident.

This piece illustrates the impact that humans have on wildlife, apart from the usual, (loss of habitat, unsustainable farming, loss of of insect numbers due to that, global climate warming due to excess carbon, explosion of human population etc. etc.)
