We visited Pryor Mountain in Lovell, Wyoming in 2015.  Our plan was to try to get up to the top of the mountain early in the morning, so I could get nice low direct sunlight on pictures.

When we got to the road entrance to start going up to the mountain we found a warning sign with a few symbols: motorcycle, car, truck, the obvious jeep shape, etc.  All symbols, except the jeep had a diagonal line crossing them out!  (Meaning don’t try to go up this road unless you’re driving a Jeep) My husband, in his previous life (before we met), had spent a lot of time taking some very serious off-road 4-wheel driving trips exploring in Arizona and Utah.  The sign was not going to spot him and make us turn around.  We went from the base of the mountain at 3,400 ft elevation to 8,500 ft to the top in our small rental SUV!  Glenn would stop at some places that looked tricky and inspected them out before proceeding.  It was a very difficult, rugged road, quite challenging.  But he knew what he was doing.

On the way up, we did not see any horses.  Once on the top we started driving around and finally found only just a few of them (3-4).  But they soon went behind some trees too far, and too difficult to see.  Later, as we are trying to figure out where they could be, we run into a tour expedition group.  The lady in charge of the tour, Nancy Cerroni, herself driving a jeep, was shocked at the fact that we had made it up the mountain in our small rental SUV! 

Nancy was so nice to us and proceeded to informed us that the horses start getting active and moving around mid-morning and led us along with her group to a watering pond the horses would be coming to drink and bathe soon.  It wasn’t long before they showed up, one band at a time!  We had the great experience of seeing these wild mustangs show so much affection for each other.  Each "band" was like an individual family, a beautiful thing to see in the wild!

“Compartiendo una Bebida en Pryor Mountain”

Visitamos la Montaña Pryor en Wyoming en el 2015.  Nuestro plan era tratar de subir a la cima de la montaña temprano en la mañana, para tener luz baja directa del sol en las fotos.

Cuando llegamos a la entrada del camino para empezar a subir la montaña nos encontramos un letrero de advertencia con unos símbolos: motocicletas, auto, camioneta, la obvia imagen de un Jeep, etc. Todos los símbolos excepto el Jeep, ¡tenían una línea diagonal tachándolos! (Queriendo decir no trates de subir este camino a menos que andes manejando un Jeep) Mi esposo, durante su previa vida (antes de que nos conociéramos), había pasado mucho tiempo haciendo serios viajes de doble tracción en terrecería explorando Arizona y Utah.  El letrero no iba a detenerlo y hacernos irnos de regreso.  ¡Subimos de la base de la montaña a 3,400 pies de altura hasta 8,500 pies en la cima en nuestro SUV chico de renta!  Glenn se detenía en algunos lugares que se veían complicados y los inspeccionaba antes de proceder.  Fue un camino muy difícil, escabroso, muy retador.  Pero el sabía lo que estaba haciendo.

En el camino hacia arriba, no vimos ningún caballo.  Una vez en la cima empezamos a conducir por los alrededores cuando por fin encontramos unos pocos (3-4).  Pero se metieron detrás de unos árboles muy pronto, muy lejos y muy difícil de ver.  Mas tarde, mientras tratábamos de descifrar donde pudieran estar, nos encontramos con un grupo de expedición turístico.  La señora a cargo del tour, Nancy Cerroni, ella conduciendo un Jeep, estaba asombrada con el hecho de que habíamos llagado hasta arriba de la montaña ¡en un pequeño SUV de renta!

Nancy fue muy amable con nosotros y procedió a informarnos que los caballos empiezan a moverse a media mañana y nos llevo junto con su grupo a una poza donde los caballos vendrían pronto a beber y bañarse.  No paso mucho tiempo cuando empezaron a aparecer, ¡una banda a la vez!  Tuvimos una gran experiencia ver estos mustang salvajes mostrar tanto afecto entre ellos.  Cada “banda” era como una familia individual, ¡algo hermoso que ver en la naturaleza!
