Great horned owls show up every once in a while in our backyard.  Our beautiful ironwood tree we have outside our kitchen nook provide a perfect place to stop and rest for many wild animals in our little piece of desert. 

This particular owl came to visit in an August afternoon, when it was very hot outside.  It walked slowly a few steps back and forth on that branch and seemed to get some relief by looking up slightly and letting the wind blow the feathers on its neck and, at the same time, its wings would hang slightly down and away from its body, as if it was relaxing, allowing some air vent underneath them.  It stayed in the tree for a few hours. 

The great horned owl makes its wonderful hoot that I don’t mind at all waking up to in the middle of the night!

“Búho Cornudo Grande”

Los Búhos cornudos aparecen de vez en cuando en nuestro patio trasero.  Nuestro hermoso árbol palo fierro que tenemos afuera del desayunador provee un lugar perfecto para detenerse y descansar para muchos animales silvestres en nuestro pequeño pedazo de desierto.

Este búho en particular vino a visitar en una tarde de agosto, cuando hacía mucho calor afuera.  El caminaba lentamente unos pasos hacia adelante y hacia atrás en esa rama y parecía tener un poco de alivio mirando ligeramente hacia arriba y dejando que el viento soplara las plumas de su cuello, al mismo tiempo, sus alas colgaban un poco y separándolas un poco del cuerpo, como si se relajara, permitiendo que el viento pasara por debajo de ellas.  Se quedo in el árbol por unas pocas horas.

¡El búho cornudo grande hace ese encantador ululato que no me importa que me despierte a media noche!
