The sinking of a tuna fishing boat “El Vencedor” in this area of Cabo Pulmo some decades ago has become a perfect place for many fishes of different species in great numbers.  The different parts that made up the boat, including a more than five-foot diameter propeller, are scattered and provide perfect spaces for the fish to hide.  The bull shark nowadays is a frequent visitor of “El Vencedor”.  This was the place where I got to dive with a bull shark for the first time in my more than 22 years of scuba diving.  The propeller became the part of “El Vencedor” that I found most interesting of all the ship parts and that’s why I decided to make it a part of my painting.  Cortez garden eels cover such large areas of the sandy bottom where the sunken boat parts are that truly is a garden of eels!  The eels will go back into their holes in the sand when a fish or diver swims near them, to then come out as soon as you’re past them.

El naufragio de un barco pesquero atunero “El Vencedor” en esta área de Cabo Pulmo hace algunas décadas se ha convertido en un lugar perfecto para muchos peces de diferentes especies en grandes cantidades.  Las diferentes piezas que formaban parte del barco, incluyendo la propela de más de un metro y medio de diámetro, están desparramadas y proveen perfectos espacios para que los peces se escondan.  El tiburón toro es hoy en día un frecuente visitante en “El Vencedor”. Este fue el lugar donde buceé con el tiburón toro por primera vez en mis más de 22 años de buceo.  La propela se convirtió en la parte de “El Vencedor” que encontré mas interesante de todas las partes del barco y por eso es por lo que decidí hacerla parte de mi pintura.  Las anguilas (congrios) de Cortés cubren tan grandes áreas del fondo arenoso donde están las partes de barco hundido que verdaderamente parece ¡un jardín de anguilas!  Las anguilas se meten en sus hoyos cuando un pez o un buzo nada cerca de ellas, para luego salen en cuanto las pasas.
