The Black-headed Bushmaster is an endangered Costa Rican endemic. Loss of habitat and persecution have diminished the numbers of these magnificent, docile pitvipers. Having seen them in the wild, often as I was sitting down almost on them, I can attest they are not aggresive and are also quite large and worthy of respect.
