Moonrise
Painted dogs generally hunt in the morning and evening. They are one of Africa's most successful predators, making a kill in a very high percentage of their hunts, and they have an amazing ability to work co-operatively in caring for pups and each other. Although their numbers have dropped precipitously over the last decades, I have been fortunate to spend time in places where the dogs are still found. This painting show 2 dogs from a pack setting out on a hunt in the evening. I used a limited palette of colors to allow the dogs to blend into the background and to give the painting a tranquil feel.
