Summer Repose
The Goosander (Mergus merganser) has become a quiet commonly seen bird where I live. For me it is always a pleasure to watch the species in summer and wintertime on our lakes and rivers in Switzerland. Regardless the time of the year these handsome diving ducks have a very attractive plumage. I observed this pair resting and enjoying a warm summer day in the nature recreation zone near the water dam where a fish passage is joining into the lake. A perfect hunting ground for the goosanders. As a member of the sawbill family they use their long, serrated bills for catching fish.
