I always enjoy working with inks on Clayboard in combination with traditional scratchboard technique. This medium allows a nice combination of various effects. My idea for this work was to make it look like an old photograph. The reference pics were taken on an early morning in Kenya when the very first light of the day began to draw over the landscape. The dim light and far distance of the birds resulted in poor and grainy photo quality due to the high ISO setting of my camera. However, the mood of the synchronized looking scenery was speaking to me. To tell the story complete I created two companying paintings depicting the Crowned crane pair roosting on top of a big acacia tree and finally taking off into a new day.
