While traveling the roads of the Big Island of Hawaii, we stopped at a very colorful fruit stand to investigate what they were selling. My husband John, being a formulator of nutritional products, is always looking for unique fruits and flavors to incorporate into his formulas. Me on the other hand, am always looking for the next great photo opportunity! I walked around for a bit and saw this beautiful bird wandering halfway hidden in the folliage, so I followed him deep into the jungle area behind the stand. He finally stopped and sat there observing me, I am sure he was curious as to why I was chasing him incessantly for 45 minutes. That is when I was able to photograph him! I wanted to show the detail of his surrounding as much as the colorful plumage. I used watercolors and acrylics to achieve this painting.
