The Great Escape II - Greater Roadrunner
The Greater Roadrunner is an iconic bird of the desert Southwest. I had only seen one once - running along the road, of course! Then I had an unexpected treat when a roadrunner appeared out of nowhere and ran through the campground where I was staying. Luckily, I had my camera in reach and was able to capture a series of images of the bird running between the campsites. For years, I experimented with ways of composing the multiple images to try to portray the rapid motion of the roadrunner. The idea for this painting came to me in a flash one morning as I was waking up.
This painting will be included in the AFC annual exhibit in Vancouver in September 2019. It was exhibited at the Joshua Tree National Park Juried Art Exhibition in September 2018 where it won third place.
