There's Magic in the Night
These members of the cereus cactus family are noted for blooming at night, with the blooms lasting only for 24 hours. Javelina or peccary love to eat the flowers which they locate with their good sense of smell from the delicate fragrance of the bloom. The petals are waxy and heavy and are usually a delicate white and pink although other colors are found. This particular variety is called Big Bertha which grows in clumps close to the ground, which I showed with the bits of gravel at their base. Several flowers can bloom on one multi-armed cactus at the same time making it a rare nighttime treat.
