I paint Living Landscapes. By painting from life and responding directly to the subject, I look beyond the postcard to build a connection with the natural world around us.

My work is moving towards expedition art. Going out into the field and focusing on specific projects results not only in beautiful paintings, but in an alternative approach to communicating entire conservation campaigns. Science can sometimes feel out of reach, dealing with huge issues that can seem overwhelming and disconnected with everyday life. My work helps bridge this divide, communicating these stories in ways that resonate at a more emotional and human scale.

My latest project: Dismayed at the growing disconnect between people and nature, I'm stepping out of my comfort zone and walking 1000 miles to create a series of 200 plein air paintings that celebrate the historic connection between land and people.

I've long been fascinated by the concept of Sense of Place and how it arises from the intertwining of culture and nature, connecting us to the land. I am going to be walking and painting The Way of Saint James through France and across Spain to Santiago de Compostela. It's an ancient pilgrimage route that's been an integral part of the landscape since 950AD. I'll be walking all 1000 miles alongside my donkey, Midas, stopping to paint en plein air every 5 miles along the entire route. This project is about connecting to the heart of the sense of place on a journey that stretches back centuries.
