The Wood Duck is one of North America's most colorful waterfowl. They are truly amazing in the light with all of their colors changing as they move. Although the males are the ones who are sporting the most color, I find the females very dainty looking with the feathers on their heads resembling flowing hair. Egg-dumping is common with Wood Ducks, where females will visit other nests and lay eggs in them, leaving another female to raise her chicks. That would be why sometimes you will see an oddly large number of offspring.
