There has been studies showing a steady decline in the rufous hummingbird population in North America. The Grouse Mountain Refuge for Endangered Wildlife has been studying the tiny creatures' migratory patterns and populations. They believe the rufous hummingbirds migratory pattern is affected by urban development. Hummingbirds are faithful to sites, and they will migrate across continents only to return to a specific spot. The Rufous Hummingbird is a U.S. - Canada Stewardship species and is on the 2014 State of the Birds Watch List, which lists birds that are at risk of becoming threatened or endangered without conservation action.
