This small, critically endangered hummingbird is currently found only along one 25-kilometer stretch of the Atoyac-Paraíso-Puerto del Gallo road in the Sierra Madre del Sur of Mexico. Its biggest threat is habitat loss from corn, coffee and fruit plantations as well as illegal drug production. This painting was created for the AFC Silent Skies mural to raise awareness about endangered birds of the world and support organizations that strive to protect them.
