The Gray-breasted parakeet is currently located in just one isolated forest on a single hilltop in Brazil. Between habitat loss and poaching for the pet trade, the global population of this species numbers only around 250 individuals. There are conservation efforts underway to reduce poaching, increase reproductive rates and expand the bird’s habitat range. This painting was created for the AFC Silent Skies mural to raise awareness about endangered birds of the world and support organizations that strive to protect them.
