Biography

I am a watercolor artist who enjoys exploring the natural world, especially engaging in the quiet observation of wildlife. I've been carrying a camera around since I was a child and still use my camera liberally for enjoyment. It enables me to capture intimate wildlife moments and these images in turn aide my memory while painting.
One of my most satisfying art accomplishments occurred in 2013, when curators at the Smithsonian National Zoological Park in Washington D.C found my Whooping Crane art online and commissioned me to create watercolors for four celebration banners at their new Whooping Crane exhibit. This was an honor and the crown to many years of supporting Whooping crane conservation.
I count among my greatest creative accomplishments, authoring and illustrating the Discover Birds Activity Book https://tnbirds.org/education/ published and distributed by the Tennessee Ornithological Society. The activities in this book are the result of collaboration w creative scientists and educators. Available online in English and Spanish, the printed book has been distributed to 50,000 students, thus far, and has had international impact in educating youth and giving them a tool to use in educating others.
Watercolor brings me joy. Though I paint many subjects, portraits of wildlife in their natural environment are my favorite. My goal is to capture the emotion of the moment through light and atmosphere, so the viewer can join me in that moment of inspiration.
