The Artist

"My work is rooted in a deep connection to the wildlife and landscapes of the Pacific Northwest. Living on Vancouver Island, I am surrounded by a remarkable intersecton of forest, ocean, and mountain ecosystems where animals move quietly and the viewer is invited to slow down and share that space. These moments - often subtle and fleeting - form the foundation of my paintings. Many of my compositions emphasize atmosphere, texture, and the subtle tension between presence and absence. "

Dione Dolan is a Canadian wildlife artist based on Vancouver Island, where the meeting of forest, ocean, and mountains provide constant inspiration for her work. Working primarily in oil, she creates paintings that explore quiet moments of wildlife presence within a landscape; often focusing on the subtle intervals when an animal pauses, observes, or moves through its environment with a calm authority. Her compositions emphasize atmosphere, texture, and the relationship between animals and the places they inhabit, reflecting the distinctive charachter of the Pacific Northwest.

Dione's work is rooted in careful observation and a deep respect for wildlife as sentient participants within their ecosystem. Rather than dramatic action, her paintings often capture stillness and presence, inviting the viewer to share the moment. Recent work has continued to explore these themes through paintings of coastal birds, raptors, bears, and cougars, while expanding her focus on landscape and atmosphere as an integral part of the narrative and to create a deeper appreciation for the wildlife and habitats that define the landscapes of the coast.
