Black-billed magpies have a relationship with grizzly bears, often acting as scavengers in North American ecosystems.  These smart birds follow bears to scavenge food scraps, or steal food from carcasses, sometimes provoking or teasing the bears.  This grizzly in Denali National Park in Alaska is resting, but well aware of its surroundings.

This piece is part of the 2026 Artists for Conservation "Live" annual exhibition at the VanDusan Botanical Gardens in Vancouver, BC
