This unique piece of art contains 9 life size original moth sculptures of 6 different species. The species included in this piece of art are luna, regal, polyphemus, rosy maple, io, cecropia and white spotted sable. The bodies of the moths are first sculpted out of clay, I create a mold and cast them in plaster. I then cover the bodies in tiny strips of paper. The wings are made from paper, tediously cut out and are hand painted using acrylics and gouache. The base is a wooden frame that is 6.75" x 8.25" and 4.5" deep. The moths surround a working light and the whole piece is easily hung.
