Spring Arrivals in the Champlain Valley – Canada Goose
The familiar sound of Canada Goose calls overhead is one of the surest signs that spring has returned to Vermont. As they arrive in the wetlands of the Champlain Valley, pairs begin claiming small territories and preparing their nesting sites.
These early days of the breeding season can be dramatic, with spirited disputes between neighbors as each pair defends its chosen patch of marsh. Once the nests are established, however, the intensity fades and the geese settle into the quieter rhythm of raising their young together in the surrounding wetlands.
