Atlantic Puffins of Elliston, NL
This painting was inspired by a visit to Elliston, Newfoundland - home to one of North America’s most accessible puffin colonies. I spent hours in the windswept grasses atop the cliffs, watching North Atlantic Puffins waddle, bow, and offer tufts of grass in their elaborate courtship rituals. When a gift is accepted, the pair touch bills and lifts their heads skyward, framed by the golden light of evening. This piece was created in oil on a primed wood panel, the dimensions are 12” x 14" and it is beautifully framed in a hardwood plein air frame and is ready to hang.
