A New Chapter: Claire Payne Promoted to Signature Member of Artists for Conservation

I’m honored to share some exciting news from my artistic and conservation journey: I have been promoted from Associate Member to Signature Member of Artists for Conservation (AFC).

This recognition means a great deal to me because Artists for Conservation is an international community of artists dedicated to supporting environmental conservation through art. Being part of this organization will bring opportunities to connect with other artists who share a deep appreciation for the natural world and a desire to help protect it.

According to AFC President and Founder Jeffrey Whiting, my promotion followed a review of my membership that considered my recent accomplishments and participation in AFC exhibitions and programs. The organization also considers demonstrated support of its conservation mission and having work selected by the jury for the AFC Exhibit on multiple occasions among the factors for promotion.

I’m especially grateful that my work has been selected for AFC exhibitions, and I’m proud that my art can play a small part in a larger effort to bring attention to wildlife, wild places, and the importance of conservation.

What Signature Membership Means

The Signature Membership level of membership brings expanded opportunities to participate in AFC festivals, exhibitions, special projects, expeditions, and international tours.

Signature Members also receive expanded representation and professional features on the AFC website, as well as opportunities to share workshops, news, events, and other aspects of their work with the AFC community.

One particularly exciting benefit is the eligibility to participate in the AFC Flag Expeditions Fellowship Program, along with other special expeditions and conservation projects.

And, of course, I now have the privilege of adding the “AFC” designation after my name - a small addition that carries a lot of meaning.

Art, Nature, and Conservation

For me, creating art inspired by the natural world has always been about more than simply depicting what I see. It is about encouraging people to pause, look more closely, and develop a greater appreciation for the wildlife and landscapes around us.

I believe that artists have a unique role to play in conservation. A painting can tell a story, create an emotional connection, and perhaps inspire someone to care more deeply about a species, habitat, or place they might otherwise overlook. I am grateful to be part of a community where art and conservation intersect in such a powerful way.

I sincerely thank Jeffrey Whiting and the Artists for Conservation Foundation for this recognition. I’m excited to see where this next chapter leads - and especially for the opportunities to continue using my art to celebrate and support the natural world.

Thank you to everyone who has taken part in this journey.
